The Importance of Having a Healthy Food List

The word food brings to mind a huge array of ingredients, all of which contribute towards providing nutrition to the body. In the simplest terms, food is any substance ingested to give body nutrition. The food is generally of animal, plant or fungi origin, and all contains nutrients, including vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, or minerals. This is a relatively broad definition, however, and food has many meanings in everyday life. Below are five common food groups, along with descriptions of each.

Sweets Sweet potatoes are perhaps one of the most versatile foods in the world. Whether eaten as pureed fresh sugar, mashed into chocolate bars, or mixed into a delicious ice cream recipe, sweet potatoes have been used for centuries to sweeten meals and provide calories without fat. They have an extremely low glycemic index, making them a popular choice for diabetics looking to limit their blood sugar spikes in the middle of the day. With a wide variety of uses, sweet potatoes rank near the top of the list of natural food sources when it comes to nutrition. In fact, some dietitians even recommend consuming at least four ounces of sweet potatoes each day for good health and nutrition.

Nuts and seeds are similar to nuts and seeds in that they are low in calories and high in nutrition. From protein to iron, from fatty acids to iron, nuts and seeds offer a wide range of health benefits, including boosting brain function, lowering cholesterol, and increasing overall energy. For the diabetic, peanuts are a favorite food to help control blood glucose levels. For the non-diabetic, peanuts are a great source of protein and fiber. They are also a rich source of various types of vitamins and minerals, so they are a safe alternative for those who might not otherwise get enough of those nutrients in their diets.

Fats One of the big food groups that is often overlooked when it comes to diet is fats. Fats provide your body with an abundance of essential vitamins and minerals, as well as providing some benefit to your taste buds. If you feel that you are eating too many carbs on a regular basis, eliminating the simple carbohydrates in your diet is a great place to start. Just look for oils such as olive oil, canola oil, or soybean oil.

Dessert If you’re a fan of dessert, you need to be aware that there are actually good carbohydrates that provide healthy benefits in addition to providing you with a delicious dessert. While white bread, bagels, and granola bars may not seem like they should make up part of your healthy diet, they do! For one, they are low in calories and low in fat. Another important aspect of their nutrition is their rich fiber content, which provides your body with much needed relief from constipation and other digestive problems. For these reasons and more, there are many good dessert options out there, so look for foods such as applesauce, yogurt, oatmeal, and whole grain bread.

Meals that are Usually Consumed As Part of a Meal Many people actually eat a meal that consists of more than one type of food. For example, most people eat three to four slices of whole-wheat pizza in addition to their meat and vegetables. While this isn’t bad per se, it is better if you combine the different food types into one meal. For instance, instead of having the meat and vegetables come along with the pizza, have them come with a bowl of pasta or rice; have a salad with the pizza; or even have an apple or orange for a snack.
