Toto was first introduced to audiences in 1931. In fact, Toto went on a short European tour to raise money for Mike Porcaro, a band member who had recently been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Unlike other bands, Toto’s reunion tour was not a permanent tour. The band decided to continue playing as a tribute to Porcaro, but he is not a member of the group anymore.

In summer 2010, Toto reformed for a short European tour. This tour was to raise money for Porcaro, who had recently been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. In the summer of 2011, the band announced that Toto would continue touring, but without him. The band will never make another appearance on stage or in the movies. A backronym for ‘TOtable Tornado Observatory,’ Toto is an in situ instrument for recording tornadoes. It is an in-situ instrument used by meteorologists to track tornadoes. The name refers to the fact that Toto is the only dog in the world with a voice! In contrast, other dogs don’t have voices, so a TOTO can speak. The word ‘TOto’ is short for ‘TOtable Tornado Observatory’, and is a shortened version of the phrase ‘TOtable’.
